What is a Library of Things?

The Howland Public Library's Library of Things is a new collection of unconventional items that expand upon the idea of what libraries offer to the community. The LOT supports the library's mission to "provide free and equal access to information, education, enrichment and personal growth experiences."

The library's goal with this collection is to support lifelong learning and provide community members with opportunities to Explore, Play, Create and Connect. Borrow anything from binoculars to ukuleles. Explore your world with museum passes or STEAM discovery kits. Play video-games, a round of tennis, or a game of chess. Create a masterpiece with our Arts and Crafts kits. Connect with the world with WiFi hotspots or a GoPro camera.

How Can I Use the Library of Things?

Come to the Library to browse our new collection. Library of Things items may be checked out by patrons who are 18 years or older, have a library card in good standing, and are residents of the Beacon City School District. All patrons must sign a Borrowers Agreement to borrow Library of Things items. Get all the details in our Library of Things Policy.

For now, the Library is not accepting donations for the Library of Things. If you would like to suggest an item be added to the Library of Things, a suggestion box is located at the Library.
